Week 2 Journal
At first, I thought Randy was a super old guy. But then he said he was born in 1960, that instantly made this hit home because that’s when my parents were born. So I could easily see this being from my Dad. Just on the first little bit of reading, I think Randy was able to achieve his childhood dreams because he grabbed principles such as: working on the fundamentals from his dreams. Those principles drove him to achieve. He focused on serving others. He was able to use certain opportunities as a steppingstone to achieve his goal of being an Imagineer.
I do feel like dreaming is important. Life just gets gloomy, if you don’t have some sort of cool goal or idea to work towards. But the catch there is that you must work towards the dream. Otherwise the dream loses value because it isn’t motivating you to do anything. Life becomes drudgery without dreams. I also think its important to set your dreams and goals at an achievable level. If I say my dream is to be the next Michael Jordan, that’s cool and all, but its nothing more than dust in the wind because I cant dunk a basketball.
One of my childhood dreams was to start a sand rail/ diesel truck performance shop. These are my hobbies and something I love. The idea was to manufacture and sell my own brand of sand cars. I do have an engineering side to me that is extremely interested in internal combustion engines. Especially diesels. Theyre kind of two separate industries, but I think it would be cool to be able to do both. I can absolutely achieve this dream with the right amount of work, luck, and money. I just need to be able to get the experience in the industry and gain the tools to know what Im doing. I could design the sand cars easily on CAD software. The tricky part would be to get the funds and then producing a product that would compete with the high quality cars out there already.
