Week 14 Journal
When is
the last road trip you went on? Why did you did you go on it? Did you plan it
out before hand? I think of entrepreneurship as a long road trip. You can spend
all the time in the world planning it out, researching fun vacation sites, and
checking out hotels, but you could blow a tire on your car it everything
changes. Same goes with entrepreneurship, you could have everything planned out
how you want, but still blow a metaphorical tire.
They
biggest key in life/entrepreneurship/road trips is being able to take a punch.
You have to roll with the punches of life in order to stay successful. Always
being able to adjust to what is throw at you. Pres Eyring once said that “the
purpose of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is to change us so we stop resisting
change.” Part of that is being able to adjust to different curveballs.
My Dad
sometimes says that sometimes, you have to just plug your nose and jump.
Basically just have faith in the future. Have faith that everything will work
out for youre benefit. Whats the worst that could happen by you jumping in the
pool of entrepreneurship? Its definitely not going to kill you. The worst that
could happen is your new venture fails and you lose your money. Another good
friend says all the time when he loses money, “Its just money, Ill make more.” That’s
the attitude that I think you have to have. Obviously don’t be reckless, but I
think having an eternal perspective will help. So don’t be afraid to jump in
the pool.
Ive used
many analogies about life and entrepreneurship. Hopefully this helps you
understand some of the key pieces of advice I would give. Entrepreneurship isn’t
all peaches and cream. There are rough days. But in the end it will all be for
your learning and benefit.
